Today, the State Member for Moggill, Dr Christian Rowan MP, said that criminal gang laws will be scrapped after the Attorney-General revealed during Estimates hearings today Labor’s review of the legislation was nothing more than a sham.
Dr Rowan said. “While being questioned today, the Attorney-General confirmed the Taskforce into organised crime legislation 2015 –VLAD laws was far from a review and more like a demolition.”
“The first line of the Terms of Reference clearly points out the real intention of the Palaszczuk Labor Government is to repeal and replace the legislation.”
“This is a government claiming to be open, transparent and consultative but in reality the Attorney- General has provided the taskforce with terms of reference that directs them to scrap the laws.”
“This so-called review is a farce and a charade, proving Labor is not only beholden to union bosses and green groups, it is also for criminal motorcycle gangs with no plan to tackle organised crime.”
Dr Rowan said “Since the laws were enacted we saw a dramatic reduction in criminal gang activity on the Gold Coast and across Queensland.”
“These laws were so successful even the South Australian Labor Government most recently sought to adopt the same tough-on-crime approach that Queensland Labor seeks to repeal.”
Dr Rowan said residents of Moggill did not vote for a government that put its safety at risk and allowed criminal gangs to take back control of the streets.
“The Attorney-General continues the same vindictive approach as her colleagues, wiping the slate clean of LNP policies and laws even though they are working and protecting Queenslanders.”
Dr Rowan said “She has even gone against the advice of the Police Commissioner who has said on the public record the laws are a good thing.”
“Under an LNP Government we commit to bring the criminal gang laws back and ensure the safety of all people who live and visit the State.”
