“National Close the Gap Day offers all Queenslanders the opportunity to reflect on our ongoing responsibility to do more to end the unacceptable disadvantage so many indigenous Australians still experience.
“The 10th Closing the Gap Report, released by the Prime Minister last month, showed that as a nation we are on track to reach three of the seven original Closing the Gap targets.
“We are making progress – the target to halve child mortality is on track and here in Queensland we are on track to meet the target of getting more young indigenous kids into early childhood education.
“But more needs to be done. All Queenslanders deserve the right to a healthy future and the opportunities this affords.
“The LNP offers its ongoing support to the State Government to Close the Gap that still exists in the delivery of services and outcomes in indigenous communities throughout Queensland.”
