LNP SECURES VITAL GRANTS SUPPORT FOR LOCAL SMALL BUSINESSES
LNP State Member for Moggill, Dr Christian Rowan MP, has welcomed the availability of grants of up to $10,000 for small businesses to assist with the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, after a sustained campaign by the Liberal National Party to deliver greater small business support from the Palaszczuk State Labor Government.
Dr Rowan said that for far too long, Queensland was the only state where small businesses were not provided with emergency assistance grants by their State Government.
“Small businesses in the electorate of Moggill and western suburbs of Brisbane have been doing it incredibly tough throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, especially with no dedicated grant program being made available by the Palaszczuk State Labor Government.
“That’s why I and the Liberal National Party launched our dedicated petition, and strongly advocated to get such a grants program for our small businesses, to help them survive and reopen their doors as COVID-19 restrictions begin to lift.” Dr Rowan said.
Under the $100 million dollar grant program, grants of up to $10,000 will be available to small and micro businesses to assist with a number of defined activities resulting from the economic crisis, including meeting business costs such as utilities and rent.
Businesses applying for the grant must also meet a set of eligibility criteria, including annual turnover and payroll criteria, and be able to demonstrate impacts and losses as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr Rowan encouraged all eligible local small businesses who have been impacted by the economic crisis to apply immediately.
“With the Palaszczuk Labor Government capping funding for this program at $100 million dollars, and with no commitment to extend the program once all grants have been distributed, I would advise all local small businesses to submit their application to the Small Business COVID19 Adaptation Grant Program as soon as possible.
“Whilst it is unfortunate that it has taken so long for the Palaszczuk State Labor Government to provide access to these grants, I’m pleased that again the Liberal National Party has been able to secure such a crucial win for local small businesses.” Dr Rowan said.
