- Annastacia Palaszczuk and Labor have absolutely no plan to fix traffic congestion crippling the southeast
- Only the LNP has a plan to build the infrastructure Queensland needs
A Tim Nicholls-led LNP Government will fund a $5 million study into improving access to Brisbane’s western suburbs.
LNP Leader Tim Nicholls said Labor had failed to invest in job-creating infrastructure projects across the state and Brisbane’s western and centenary suburbs were no exception.
“Annastacia Palaszczuk and Labor have absolutely no plan to fix traffic congestion* crippling the southeast, let alone in the western and centenary suburbs,” Mr Nicholls said.
“This Western Suburbs Transport Study will help government plan for the future – and detail how transport will be integrated across bus service routes, rail stations, local and state roads and cycleways.
“The LNP’s local MPs Scott Emerson (Maiwar), Tarnya Smith (Mt Ommaney) and Dr Christian Rowan (Moggill) have been extremely vocal in ensuring their communities are planning for the future now.”
LNP MP for Indooroopilly and candidate for Maiwar Scott Emerson said Labor had slashed spending on western suburbs roads over the last three years.
“I’m committed to busting congestion so that locals aren’t stuck in traffic so they can get to work and school on time and back home to their families,” Mr Emerson said.
LNP Mt Ommaney MP Tarnya Smith said the $5 million Western Suburbs Transport Study would identify congestion-busting projects across the region.
“This study is about taking steps to ease crippling congestion, reducing the risk of fatal crashes, planning for the future and ensuring motorists get home to their families faster,” Ms Smith said.
“I am proud to be part of an LNP team that has listened to community concerns surrounding this issue.”
LNP Moggill MP Dr Christian Rowan said thousands of western suburbs’ motorists experienced significant delays and traffic congestion daily.
“That’s why the LNP team has listened, acted and come up with a plan to bust congestion in the western suburbs now and into the future,” he said.
“Instead of sitting around talking about building infrastructure like Annastacia Palaszczuk, who has done nothing to fix the problem, the LNP has put its money where its mouth is and will actually deliver the projects our state needs.”
*The RACQ’s May 2017 Travel Time Report shows actual travel speeds on the Centenary Motorway are significantly slower than they should be and are getting worse.
– Between May 2016 and May 2017 the following sections of the Centenary Motorway and Western Freeway have had significant drops in average speed.
– Moggill Road is also listed as one of the Top 15 Overall Slow Points on the road network for the Inbound and Outbound peak periods.
