Today, Dr Christian Rowan MP, the State Member for Moggill, called on the Palaszczuk Labor Government to come clean with commuters and release their secret fare review report.
Dr Rowan said the government’s delaying tactics were a transparent attempt to bury the report before next month’s council elections.
“It is time Queenslanders were told what changes Labor will be making to bus, train and ferry fares,” Dr Rowan said.
“Transport Minister Stirling Hinchliffe has been stalling on releasing this report for months – we know it’s ready, there’ve been leaks from the report – it’s now time it was made public.
“This Labor Government is frozen at the wheel and while they’ve been dithering and playing politics this report has been put on ice.
“Minister Hinchliffe knows there’s going to be a public backlash against his plot to axe the popular ‘free after 9’ scheme which benefits 80,000 commuters.
“A plan to merge zones leading to fare hikes for commuters from hubs like Jindalee, Chermside and Carindale.”
Dr Rowan said Queenslanders can’t trust Labor not to use commuters as cash cows to plug their budget black holes.
“We only need to look back to when Annastacia Palaszczuk was Transport Minister and Mr Hinchliffe was a member of Cabinet when Labor was last in power,” he said.
“Endless 15 per cent fare increases, trains running late or not at all and free-falling patronage figures – Queenslanders know what Labor’s public transport legacy is.
“In stark contrast, the LNP scrapped Labor’s 15 per cent annual increases, cut public transport fares by five per cent across the state for the first time and froze fares in 2015.
“Under Labor our public transport network will always be held back by bungles and incompetence.”
