The Crisafulli LNP State Government has delivered $375,000 to five community groups in the electorate of Moggill, to assist their environmental stewardship in local green spaces.
The Kholo Creek Catchment Group, Pullen Pullen Catchment Group, Moggill Creek Catchment Group, Cubberla-Witton Catchment Group and The Hut Environmental and Community Association will each received $75,000 to help clean up local waterways and shared public spaces, as well as deliver important education and conservation programs.
Minister for the Environment and Tourism, the Hon Andrew Powell MP, said he was proud to support such an array of committed volunteers as they worked to improve facilities for locals.
“We are very grateful for the work of grassroots community groups in helping to maintain and improve natural spaces, particularly in urban and semi-rural settings,” said Minister Powell.
“The work of the Pullen Pullen Catchments group in ensuring the long term survival of the collared Delma, and the iconic platypus in the outer suburbs of Brisbane is to be commended.”
State Member for Moggill, Dr Christian Rowan MP, said he was delighted to have secured this funding for his local groups, which is being delivered as a part of local election commitments made at the October 2024 State Election.
“I am a proud advocate of our grassroots community environmental groups and the work they do in our area,” said Dr Rowan.
“Whether it’s weeding, tree planting, or clearing creek banks, these community members contribute so much for our residents, and help to improve our lifestyle with access to the great outdoors.
”The Hut Environmental and Community Association will use the grant to establish a network of sensors to support more systematic and detailed observations to establish a community education program to educated residents about Brisbane’s ecosystems. The project will include revegetation, tree planting and gully erosion management in an area of Mt Coot-tha Reserve.
Cubberla-Witton Catchment Group is hoping to use their grant to stabilise gully banks in a Land for Wildlife Property in Chapel Hill, and also rehabilitate 200 metres of creek banks.
Moggill Creek Catchment Group will invest in upgrading gits native plant nursery infrastructure, facilities and technology to help grow volunteer involvement in delivering native plants to local bush regeneration in the catchment sites.
Kholo Creek Catchment Group is intending to restore creeks and wildlife habitats in the area, with a comprehensive engagement and promotion program to increase volunteer numbers.
Congratulations to all of our local groups and thank you for your ongoing dedication and stewardship of our local environment.
