Today, Dr Christian Rowan MP, the State Member for Moggill, called on parents in his electorate to ensure that their children were fully vaccinated.
Dr Rowan said “Australia has a generally high rate of immunisation – as high as
95% in some areas – but figures by Metro North Brisbane show across our
Medicare Local Catchment the figure is a disappointing 92.9%”.
Metro North Medicare Local spokesperson, Dr Natasha Christa, is advising parents that immunisation is one of the most effective medical interventions we have to
prevent disease. Dr Rowan said “parents are encouraged to talk to their doctor
to get the facts about immunisation”.
“Low immunisation rates can put whole areas at risk because protection against some diseases like measles and whooping cough require a 90% plus immunisation rate to prevent outbreaks”, Dr Rowan said.
