Today, Dr Christian Rowan MP, the State Member for Moggill, called on the Palaszczuk Government to implement a balanced approach when tackling the growing public health issue of illicit amphetamine use.
Focusing on supply reduction, demand reduction and enhanced access and availability of treatment services for those suffering physical and psychological harms is critical if we want to address this important community issue.
Dr Rowan said “Ice use is not just a problem in the western suburbs of Brisbane
but a growing problem right around our state and across Australia”. It is “ruining
individuals, destroying families, and hurting communities.”
“Families, friends, teachers and counsellors need to be watchful for symptoms of
problematic and experimental use which may include disorientation and poor
concentration, decreased energy, apathy and the limited ability to experience
pleasure, irritability, depression, anxiety and panic, paranoia, extreme
fatigue and exhaustion to name but a few” Dr Rowan said.
“Ice possesses one of the highest risks of all illicit drugs to our
community with the rate of Ice use almost doubling in the last twelve months“, Dr Rowan
said.
