Local State Member for Moggill, Dr Christian Rowan MP, has been silenced by the Palaszczuk Labor Government while addressing Labor’s new, $1.3 billion waste tax.
Following the State Government’s successful ramming through of the devastating new legislation, Dr Rowan said every household and business across the Moggill electorate will feel the full impacts of the tax.
“After just five sentences into my parliamentary speech on Labor’s new waste tax, I was cut off and prevented from speaking any further. This blatant attack on democracy prevented me, and close to two dozen other MPs, from speaking up on behalf of residents and businesses who will now be slugged $75 per tonne of waste.
“In the electorate of Moggill we have over 4,600 businesses, and each and every one of them will be burdened by Labor’s brazen new tax grab.” Dr Rowan said.
LNP Environment Spokesman, David Crisafulli MP, said the guillotining of debate prevented scrutiny of what is a tax grab under the veil of environmental reform.
“This waste tax was a con job from the start and now Labor have gagged MPs, who were unable to speak about the hammer blow it will have on their communities and councils,” Mr Crisafulli said.
“Barely 10 per cent of the money raised from this tax will go towards environmental programs for Queenslanders. The rest will go to government, including into Treasury coffers.
“These laws will tax Queenslanders from Cairns to Currumbin just so Labor’s reckless spending spree can continue.” Mr Crisafuli said.
Dr Rowan said residents can be assured that under an LNP Government, no such tax grabs will take place.
“An LNP Government led by Deb Frecklington will not introduce any new taxes.”
