Constant incidents on roads in the western suburbs have triggered Moggill LNP MP Dr Christian Rowan to renew calls for an integrated road and public transport plan to deliver a safer commute.
Dr Rowan’s further push followed an incident on Moggill Road on August 29 in which a teenage girl was taken to hospital with significant leg injuries after she was hit by a car.
“Injuries and deaths for cyclists have sadly become part and parcel of commuting on Moggill Road,” Dr Rowan said.
“There’s a sense of inevitability about incidents on Moggill Rd and our community is devastated every time there’s a tragedy.
“Congestion is out of control and our roads aren’t coping with the levels of cars, buses, cyclists and trucks.
“Moggill Road is a hot spot for crashes but there is nothing in the pipeline from the Palaszczuk Labor Government that would deliver better and safer road infrastructure.”
Dr Rowan said he had repeatedly called for the State Government to develop a plan involving road infrastructure and public transport solutions for the western suburbs.
“Action to improve safety on westside roads must be fast-tracked because one tragic accident is one too many,” Dr Rowan said.
“I fear it’s sadly just a matter of time before another serious injury or worse occurs.”
