Congratulations to all past and present students, parents, teachers, and school staff on the wonderful occasion of Pullenvale State School’s 150th Anniversary.
To recognise and celebrate this special event, on Saturday the 16th of March 2024 – 150 years to the day that students first arrived at Pullenvale State School a very special commemorative ceremony was held, along with a day full of fun and activities for local families.
Speaking at the Official 150th Opening Ceremony, Dr Christian Rowan MP, the Shadow Minister for Education and State Member for Moggill, acknowledged the wonderful history of Pullenvale State School, and it’s significant contribution to the local community.
“The origins of this terrific school were not without difficulty nor sacrifice. However, it is to the eternal credit and dedication of the local pioneering families that the community of were able to secure a school for this local area.
“Established in 1874, Pullenvale State School began as a ‘one teacher’ school, with a teacher’s residence, on the site of what is now the Pullenvale Environmental Education Centre.
“What is so fantastic about Pullenvale State School, and what I believe is one of the many unique qualities that sets this school apart, is how the memory and contribution of these pioneering families continues to be preserved through to this day, including through successive generations attending Pullenvale State School.
“More broadly, these families are also remembered through the naming of many prominent localities featuring the family names of Anstead, Bainbridge, Boyle, Herron, Lisk, McCaskill, and O’Brien, to name just a few.
“Over the last 150 years, Pullenvale State School has grown from an inaugural enrolment of 32 students, to now over 400 students attending from Prep to Year 6. It truly is a school which continues to grow from strength to strength.” Dr Rowan said.
In recognition of this great milestone and to mark the 150th Anniversary Day, Dr Rowan present the current School Principal of Pullenvale State School, Ms Natala Crawley, with a commemorative plaque to be displayed for future generations.
