After a long COVID absence, the Brisbane City Pops Orchestra is thrilled to welcome back our audience to our first concert of 2021, entitled The Silver Screen. We will be presenting and celebrating the amazing music that has been written for some of our favourite movies, a program that promises to be both nostalgic and uplifting!
The orchestra will be performing selections from some great musicals, both old and new. These include some toe-tapping pieces from Irving Berlin’s Annie Get Your Gun, some great songs from Mamma Mia (the music made famous by ABBA), music from the ever-popular movie Grease and some rollicking pieces from the swashbuckling Pirates of the Caribbean! We will also be presenting the beautiful music from Forrest Gump, as well as a show-stopping medley from the amazing movie The Greatest Showman.
We are very excited to feature a new guest artist this concert – Zannah – a very talented singer and songwriter with a wealth of experience in performing and recording, and a passion for music from different cultures. She will be performing some diverse songs – Blue Moon (Rogers and Hart), an old favourite – A Nightingale Sang in Berkley Square, Maids of Cadiz (by Delibes) and a beautiful Mexican song called Cucurrucucu Paloma, accompanied by our very own talented guitarist, James Lloyd.
The BCPO will also perform some movie favourites such as Dam Busters, Born Free and the exquisite Schindler’s List, performed by our esteemed conductor, Chen Yang.
So please join us for The Silver Screen and help us to celebrate our return to the stage with this wonderfully entertaining and memorable concert – definitely one not to be missed!!
