The LNP Shadow Minister for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Partnerships and State Member for Moggill, Dr. Christian Rowan MP, has released the following statement ahead of this afternoon’s state funeral for Dr Bonita Mabo in Townsville.
“Dr Bonita Mabo was a prominent Indigenous and South Sea Islander activist who has left behind an incredible legacy.
“Today we pay respect to an Australian icon, a relentless leader of Indigenous land rights.”
“Bonita Mabo was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from James Cook University just days before her passing for her contributions to Indigenous rights – an incredibly well-deserved recognition,” Dr Rowan said.
