Dr Christian Rowan MP, the State Member for Moggill and LNP Shadow Minister for Communities, Disability Services and Seniors, has congratulated Pullenvale resident, Mr Jordan Mark, on being selected by the YMCA as this year’s Queensland Youth Parliamentarian for the electorate of Moggill.
Mr Mark, 18, said he was drawn to the many opportunities the YMCA Youth Parliament has to offer to young Queenslanders just like him, who are interested in the political process.
“The YMCA Youth Parliament is really a perfect fit, and it will be a great place to learn more about Queensland’s democracy and political process.
“I believe it will also be a great opportunity to raise and debate the issues that are important to me and our community” Mr Mark said.
Dr Rowan recently took Jordan on a tour of Queensland’s Parliament House, ahead of the official launch of the 2019 Queensland Youth Parliament Program.
“It was great to have Jordan see the day-to-day workings of our Queensland Parliament during a sitting week, and showcase a little of what he can expect throughout the program this year.
“The YMCA Queensland Youth Parliament is a terrific opportunity for 15 to 25 year olds right across Queensland to take part in a life-changing experience, and I’m sure Jordan will really enjoy and make the most of his time as the Youth Member for Moggill,” Dr Rowan said.
Organised and facilitated by YMCA Brisbane, the Queensland Youth Parliament is an independent program that aims to bridge the gap between legislators and youth in Queensland, and provide opportunities for personal and leadership development.
Now in its 24th year, the YMCA Queensland Youth Parliament brings together 93 young members from across the state.
This year’s Queensland Youth Parliament will run from April to October and will feature a mix of social events and time spent working together and debating bills at Queensland’s Parliament House.
