Today, Dr Christian Rowan MP, the State Member for Moggill, called on the Palaszczuk Government to provide bi-partisan support and back the LNP’s Private Members Bill when introduced into Parliament.
Dr Rowan said “The LNP Government completed a major review of the Mental Health
Act and introduced a Bill into the Parliament in the last sitting week before
the election was called”.
“We intend to continue our commitment to mental health and will introduce a Private
Members Bill that will improve the lives of many in my electorate of Moggill
and thousands across Queensland” Dr Rowan said.
Mental illness affects almost one in two Queenslanders, aged 16 to 85, who will
experience a form of mental illness some time in their lives. Of the total population of young people aged between 13 and 18 years of age, an estimated 10% have mental health needs and 2.3% have severe mental illness.
“Queenslanders with a mental illness deserve a government that will take action to improve services and help strengthen their rights” Dr Rowan said.
