Brookfield Uniting Church: 150 Years of Faithfulness, Community, and Celebration
Friday, 20 September 2019
On Sunday, 8 September 2019, more than one hundred residents and Uniting Church Members from across the western suburbs, gathered at the historic Brookfield Uniting Church to celebrate a very special 150th Anniversary Service.
First opening its doors in 1869, the Brookfield Uniting Church has been a mainstay of the local community, and proudly forms part of Brookfield’s historical precinct, along with the Brookfield State School, the Brookfield Cemetery, and the Brookfield Showgrounds.
During the Service, stories were shared highlighting some of the Church’s incredible history, including its initial start not only as a place of worship, but also its important role in serving as the community’s local school, until construction of the Brookfield State School was complete.
In a special address during the Service by Preacher Dr John Roulston AM, Dr Roulston reflected on the importance of the Anniversary, and paid tribute the role the community has played in the Church.
“Today is about faithfulness, it is about community, it is about celebration.
“Community is not a goal to be achieved, but a gift to be received – and the gift of this community is its people; a gift we have always been given.” Dr Roulston said.
To celebrate the significant occasion, Dr Christian Rowan MP, State Member for Moggill, presented the congregation with a commemorative 150th Anniversary Plaque.
“The history of the Brookfield Uniting Church mirrors the history of this great state of Queensland, which this year celebrated its 160th Anniversary; not to mention the recent celebration of 150 years of the Queensland Parliament.
“It therefore gives me great pleasure, as the local Member for Moggill and as the LNP’s Shadow Minister for Communities, Disability Service and Seniors, to present to the church this special, commemorative plaque, to mark such a terrific milestone.”
“Congratulations again and thank you to all who worked tirelessly to make today the terrific celebration that it is.” Dr Rowan said.
