Celebrating Our Seniors

Monday, 23 September 2019

Recently, local Seniors were treated to a very special morning tea, hosted by the State Member for Moggill, and Shadow Minister for Communities, Disability Services, and Seniors, Dr Christian Rowan MP, and Councillor Kate Richards, Councillor for the Pullenvale Ward.

Held in recognition and celebration of Seniors Week 2019, Dr Rowan and Cr Richards welcomed local residents to the 5th annual local Seniors Morning Tea.

They began by acknowledging the significant contribution Seniors have made, and continue to make, to our local community.

“Each and every day, local Seniors go above and beyond for our community; whether as Justices of the Peace, through volunteer work for our great local organisations, or even simply helping with the grand kids, just to name a few.

“That’s why I’m always delighted to host this annual morning tea. It’s a way of acknowledging the invaluable contribution you make and to really, simply say thank you for all that you do.” Dr Rowan said.

Along with presentations from a host of local organisations, and Brisbane City Council, residents were also treated to entertainment provided by Kenmore State School Strings Soloist, Emily Gan, the Our Lady of the Rosary Primary School Choir, and a special performance by members of UpBeat Arts Queensland.

The morning tea also saw a number of local Seniors recognised who, in their own way, have contributed greatly to the Moggill Electorate.

“As the local State Member for Moggill, and Shadow Minister for Seniors, it was with great pleasure that I presented my Moggill Electorate Community Service Awards to some amazing residents including Doreen Farrell, Brian Becconsall, and Jean Clarke. Cr Kate Richards also presented a special award to local residents Philip and Elizabeth Batten from Crime Stoppers.”

“It was terrific to host this year’s event together with Pullenvale Ward Councillor, Cr Kate Richards, and I look forward to next year being even bigger and better again.” Dr Rowan said.
