OLR Kenmore Celebrates Golden Anniversary
Thursday, 18 July 2019
On Saturday 13 July 2019, residents and parishioners from Kenmore and the western suburbs gathered to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the opening and blessing of the Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, Kenmore.
The OLR Church on Moggill Road was at full capacity as the special Mass was celebrated by the Most Rev. Mark Coleridge, Archbishop of Brisbane, and the Very Rev. Mark Franklin, Kenmore Parish Priest.
It was explained on the day how, as Kenmore experienced significant growth with young families moving into the area during the 1960s, the parish school was opened in January 1963 with 123 students. While Mass was celebrated at the front wing of the school during its early years, on 13 July 1969, the current Parish Church of Our Lady of the Rosary Kenmore was officially opened and blessed by Bishop H.J. Kennedy DD., Auxiliary of Brisbane.
Following the Golden Anniversary Mass, a special reception was held at the OLR School, where Fr Frank Brennan SJ AO addressed the community and shared plenty of his own memories from the early days of the Church.
At the reception, Dr Christian Rowan MP, State Member for Moggill and Shadow Minister for Communities, Disability Services and Seniors, presented the OLR Church with a special plaque to commemorate the very special occasion.
“It is incredible to think that exactly 50 years ago to the day, the community of Kenmore came together on this very spot and officially opened and blessed this Church. It is a real honour to share this anniversary with so many residents and commemorate what has been a wonderful half-century of dedication and service” Dr Rowan said.
